Brain functioning and principles of neuroplasticity
The concept of “three brains”. The three evolutionary regions of the brain:
The reptilian brain is the first of our three brains, evolutionarily the oldest, and is in charge of autonomic functions.
The mammalian or emotional brain connects memories to emotions. It is the area of the limbic system where the amygdala is in charge of emotions.
The human brain (neocortex) is developmentally the last part of the brain, it has the ability to store long-term memories and allows imagining and planning.
